Why a good PageSpeed score is not enough
Performance matters, but it cannot answer whether the experience is clear, accessible, trustworthy, or effective.
Check mobile performanceA score is a measurement summary
PageSpeed and Lighthouse surface valuable lab and field signals, but one run can vary by page, device, location, content, and test conditions. Treat the score as evidence, not a grade for the entire website.
Fast can still fail
A fast page may have an unclear offer, inaccessible controls, weak proof, broken forms, missing search metadata, or an unusable mobile journey. Review these dimensions alongside speed.
- Check real-user Core Web Vitals when available.
- Test the actual task from landing page to completion.
- Review keyboard, screen-reader, zoom, and contrast behavior.
- Verify forms, analytics, privacy, and trust content.
Optimize for users, not just the number
Focus on the slow elements users encounter in critical journeys. Retest after changes and watch business and usability outcomes rather than celebrating a score in isolation.
Common questions
What is a good performance score?
A score of 90 or above is labeled good by Lighthouse, but page-level metrics and real-user experience still need review.
Why does the score change?
Network, device simulation, server response, third-party scripts, content, and test variance can all affect a run.
